It's hard to explain how these seemingly everyday materials will help my students' learning, but I'll try. An "ordinary day" for you and me would be an "amazing day" for the Special Education students I teach. I teach at a Title 1 school, which means that many of our students' families are economically disadvantaged. That also means that the property taxes that fund our school are lower than average. In short, we struggle. I spend all I can out of my own pocket to make sure my students have what they need, but it never seems like it's enough. I know that the materials in our project seem basic — but to my students, they're anything but.
