My students keep 8-10 books at a time in a seat sack on the back of their chair. They are able to "shop" for books in our classroom library that interest them during the week and they read these books during their independent reading time at school. The books I am requesting in this collection will become part of our classroom library for students to read over and over. At the end of the day, students take one book from their seat sack home to read as part of their daily "Read 20" (minutes) homework. They return it the next day. Students are so excited to take books they like home to share. They are also excited to take home books they can read to show someone at home what a great reader they are becoming. Parents are taught and encouraged to ask their child questions about their books to engage their child in comprehension conversations that build their reading skills and their relationship with their caregivers.
