I am looking to expand the literature offerings in my school to better reflect the unique and diverse student population that we serve. The classics such as Shakespeare will still be taught but I would like the curriculum to be more representative and relatable to our students, their families and their histories and experiences. Reading about and celebrating their unique culture, history and way of life will help to engage students who often feel unrepresented and unfortunately unwanted. English language learners will also be inspired to read about topics with which they are more familiar.
