For my students who struggle academically they rarely get rewarded for the things they do in school. To fight this every year I create a rewards system to recognize the work that they do in and outside of the classroom. This year our class is split into collaborative teams that work together to learn. As part of their identity and due to Covid we decided that it would be awesome to get facemasks that we could customize as a reward for their teams excellence. In addition, we decided that getting headbands with a class logo that they design would help them this year feel more connected at school. The facemasks and headbands are rewards that the students chose to help motivate them to read this year. As students with disabilities who struggle with reading they have a lot to overcome. Anything I can do to help them get invested in reading improvement is worth doing.
