I have a student on an IEP. Their goals include self-direction and improved social skills. They have designed a project that is centered around learning to play the guitar. This project includes the mathematics of music, the history and cultural relevance of the instrument itself, and learning to play the guitar through video, instructional materials, and help from their advisor-ME! The final presentation will earn them academic credits in Mathematics, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, and Music (Elective). This student will present their project to the school community. Help create an educational music space where a student can explore, learn, and grow. The goal is for students to be able to self-guide through experiential learning and design projects that focus on the guitar, learn math through understanding meter and rhythm, and the history of the instrument. The materials requested will be used by students for years to come!
