Thank you for considering helping my class! We are in the building doing face-to-face teaching/learning. Like many kiddos, my class spent last Spring wrapping up their school year in online learning. We started this school year also online, but are the brave ones who have come back into our building to learn. My class is doing a great job following all the rules: masks constantly on (except when eating), social distancing, not sharing supplies, hand washing at least three times a day, and staying put at their desks. Sitting in a desk all day is challenging for any student. Any good teacher knows, once you start some new, fun routine, it can be hard to stop. A few days ago I allowed my kiddos to get out of their seats, social distance and work from under their desks. Unfortunately, our floor is thin carpet squares directly over cement. My body hurt thinking of spending any time on the floor! I would like to keep my students from feeling the cold of the floor in their bones, especially, as it is now turning colder. I would really like to have cushions for my kiddos to at least sit part of their body on when they get off their seat. All my tables and flexible seating have had to be put away for this school year. I cannot offer collaborative spaces for my students to work. It would be wonderful to know my students have a choice in how they safely and comfortably accomplish their independent work each day. If some students can retreat to under their desk spaces, we might be able to pull off online small groups so collaboration can work this year!
