The use of technology has been known to enhance classroom instruction. My students have a very wide variety of needs and require a lot of individual attention. To accomplish this, I must use a station rotation model for both literacy and math to support my students adequately. Since most of the class is reading below the first grade level, they are limited in terms of producing work independently. Having some technology in the classroom would be a major asset in further differentiating material for my students. During the literacy block, I can assign them books to read at their level on a variety of websites (Epic, RAZ Kids, etc.). These programs also give the option for the student to listen to the story, which is crucial for my non-readers to progress toward fluent reading. This way, each student will be fully engaged throughout the literacy block even though I am focusing my attention and instructing one or two students at a time. The Chromebooks would be equally as helpful during the math block. I can use programs such as Zearn, BOOM Learning, XtraMath, EdPuzzle, and Prodigy to further support my students' understanding of the lesson. Zearn goes along with the math curriculum we use and provides extra resources for students to practice each skill. EdPuzzle allows me to create my own videos and then embed questions to check my students' understanding throughout. Overall, having these Chromebooks would be a huge help to my students and me. Due to the COVID pandemic, many of my students lost out on months of instruction due to low participation in distance learning. Chromebooks would be a great resource to maximize instructional time in an effort to close gaps, which is crucial now more than ever.
