After 16 years of teaching special education, I never imagined seeing a school year like the one we are currently in! My 5th and 6th grade students are a wonderful group of boys and girls. Some of them need a little extra assistance with reading, writing and math, but they are such a smart group of kids! This year presents a few challenges for them. They have to juggle learning in person and remotely. Remote learning is difficult because they do not have access to their teachers as much as they are used to. Extra help through video chats can be difficult when the student and teacher are trying to hold up worksheets while working. In person learning has it's challenges too. Students are at their desks longer than they have been in the past with all of their materials (Chromebook, books, coats, boots, etc). The materials I have requested will make it easier for me to help my students remotely, help them get the wiggles out while working and give them a little extra space in my classroom to store their personal belongings.
