The book follows the ghost of Jerome as he witnesses the devastation felt by his family and community after his death. He also meets the ghosts of other fallen black boys, including Emmett Till. It is a powerful story blended with history that will allow us to explore the delicate topic of race in America in a safe way. The theme is that only the living have the power to make a difference. I know my students feel limitless and yet constrained by their age. I hope this book will inspire them to speak up for what's right.
