The Georgia Pre-K Program mandates a minimum of twenty-two children with one teacher and one para-professional. This is a very high ratio of children to adults, especially for such a young age! Best teaching practices tell us that teaching small groups of children is the most effective way to differentiate learning and help children make the most progress. Yet, this is not possible with such a large number of small children. We need computers so that some children can learn independently using learning applications while we are teaching the other children in smaller groups. These students are too young to work independently, but they are very engaged by appropriate online learning programs,.
