Reading aloud books to students over video conference has been highly rewarding. It has honestly surprised me how much my students enjoy the stories. Children listen and then respond to my questions by typing into the chat or sharing verbally with the group. Sharing books with quality illustrations and relevant themes are the sparks for my lessons in reading and writing. Students need to hear fluent English in order to speak and read well. After reading to the group, I intend to loan books to students who request to borrow them. These will help students practice reading at home without using a screen. Our school is currently in full distance learning with a Friday pick-up for materials. Plans are being made for a move to hybrid where it will be even easier to send books home with my students. Thank you for your consideration of my project.
