With distance learning our third graders spend most of their time during the day in front of a screen. This project would allow them to spend some time off screen and read independently. If fully funded, each student will receive three different tools that will help students be engaged in independent reading. Each student will be adopting a stuffed animal. By adopting their animal each student is making a promise to read 20 minutes to their animal each night. Reading aloud to their animals will help improve students confidence when reading aloud to their peers. Students will also receive a reading tool to help them track their reading, like a highlight strip. This will helps students to stay on track while they're reading. Third grade has been such a strange time for all of our students, just like it is a strange time for Robbie (the main character in "How to Be Cool in Third Grade"). Every student in third grade will receive a copy of this fun and lighthearted book that tells the story of Robbie going through third grade.
