The majority of my occupational therapy special education students are students of color and either of Mexican/Mexican American/Native American, African/African American descent or Pacific Island descent. Consistent with the tenets of occupational therapy, they should have culturally relevant treatment materials. I am putting together this Donors Choose project to provide my students with colors of the world crayons and coloring activity books, and Native American/Mexican American/Polynesian and African American coloring books to provide them with materials which reflect their presence as a people, while providing fine motor and visual motor skill activities. I am excited to provide them with these materials so that their can see their faces and images in the activities we do.
