Reading and writing skills are fundamental to a 1st grader's learning process, self esteem, and academic success. Students will be able to practice their letter formation, experiment with letters and sounds, and form words. I will be able to model proper letter formation: pincer grip on the writing utensil, letters formed top to bottom left to right, on the StandUp Magnetic Write Wipe Center. Students can write the letters on their own individual Magnetic Write Wipe lapboards, and I will be able to see quickly who has mastered the task and who may require additional help. Students can take turns modelling letter formation once mastered, and then we can move on to writing letter blends and words. Students can use their individual 3 ring binders to protect their work and keep their work all in one place. Students who learn to write legibly have more confidence in their writing ability, and they can apply their writing ability to all subject areas and facets of life. My goal is to insure each child feel confident in their ability to read and write, in particular because English is a second language for many of my students.
