One of the most classic art lessons is a self-portrait. Throughout history, artists have used the self-portrait to express themselves, learn more about themselves, and accept themselves. This artistic expression reminds us of our roots, connects us with others, unlocks the imagination, and encourages experimentation. The most important tool needed for a self-portrait is a mirror and sadly, the mirrors available in our art department are old, cracked, and blurred. Who would want to draw what they see through that distorted view? My students need quality mirrors so they can feel excited to create their own self-portraits using them.
