If this project is fully funded, our speech-language pathologists will be able to provide students to high level technology for virtual learning as well as the ability to hear us through our masks when we see them face to face. The speech signal we offer students while wearing masks is decreased and the quality of the sound with our laptop microphones and speakers is not strong enough to best benefit our students. We need our students to have the best SIGNAL to hear us while we provide instruction and learning activities. When completing evaluations and providing treatment, the quality of speaker matters to a speech-language pathologist. Portable mini-amplifiers can be worn under our masks to improve our students' abilities to discriminate and respond to our instruction. Having headsets with high quality sound (for us to hear the student and for the student to hear us) is critical to being able to discriminate sounds and produce speech sounds in words clearly.
