My students have many amazing ideas to write about, with a rich vocabulary, but are frequently limited by deficiencies in spelling skills. Using these microphone headsets will alleviate that challenge and daily frustration by enabling students to independently speak what they want to write. Headsets will allow them to avoid the frustration and embarrassment of not knowing how to spell something and being fearful of making spelling mistakes. Building independence helps to increase self-esteem, confidence and motivation. It also helps students feel more socially connected to peers when they are able to produce writing pieces that are just as interesting and inspiring as peers who are not experiencing learning deficits. Another benefit of having this tool is that students can feel more in control of managing their own learning needs, thereby increasing self-advocacy. Both students who are accessing their learning through virtual means or directly at school will have the opportunity to utilize this tool for writing.
