Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools have transitioned to remote learning, including special education services. As an occupational therapist with Cleveland Metropolitan Schools, I would like to provide students with an OT toolbox to use during therapy sessions. As many families are affected by the challenges of the pandemic, students may have limited access to materials and supplies during this transition to remote learning. Each toolbox will provide students with tools and materials that can be used in several ways to strengthen their skills. These supplies will provide each student their own individual toolbox to engage in learning through play and creative use. Many of these tools and materials are familiar to the students and are frequently utilized during in-person therapy sessions. Materials include tongs, beads, craft sticks, scissors, and other small items that can be manipulated for developing fine motor and sensory skills. Having these materials accessible at home, students will be able to continue working towards their goals and independence.
