Happy Numbers is a motivating, student-paced online learning program that allows for flexibility in learning environments and student-driven learning opportunities. The online component allows it to easily translate into a remote-learning environment, and the teacher access to learning modules and activities gives teachers the ability to personalize a lesson to each student during a learning session. These decisions can be based on the data collected during a student's independent learning session. The data collected during independent learning sessions is reliable enough that a teacher can confidently utilize it to make data-informed instructional decisions, as well as assign grades. One thing I appreciate about Happy Numbers is that it is strategic in its approach to presenting information. It is composed of individual modules that focus on one skill at a time - and each skill is directly tied to a learning standard. The progression is developmentally appropriate and builds only after each step is mastered. Though the activities seem game-like, the pages are clutter-free and students can't guess at the answer - minimal multiple-choice, all text-entry answers. Even the multiple-choice screens are not formatted as one would typically envision (with A, B, C, D choices), but rather, the information is presented as interactive, clickable parts of the pictures. The teacher interface allows teachers to see exactly the activities students are struggling with. They can then click on that activity and immediately go through it with students to re-teach and solidify skills. Happy Numbers is engaging and the students enjoy every minute they interact with this learning program! I would love to be able to gift my students with this rich learning opportunity!
