My goal with this project is to issue each of my 60 ELA students their own copy of our first read-aloud book, Maniac Magee. This book covers a range of social issues and presents them in a context that 5th graders can comprehend and relate to. Distance learning is a challenge for both teachers and students in that the experience of a read-aloud is not the same as it would be in the classroom. We are also teaching during a time when it may be more of a challenge for parents to purchase chapter books for their children. The books I want to purchase to provide to students for use at home, during distance learning, can also be used year after year in my classroom if/when they are returned after we come back to school. I am excited to meet this goal and provide students a physical copy of this award-winning chapter book!
