A therapeutic classroom provides a safe place for students with trauma, anxiety, and other emotional disabilities utilize. This classroom is not just a classroom it is a safe place for them to come and decompress, learn to use coping strategies, learn to build safe relationships, and to just overall feel safe and that someone has their back. The atmosphere is set up with warm, quiet, peaceful, and a soothing place where then can come and talk, or use many of the different coping strategies in place to get out what they are feeling. When one student is getting upset in another classroom and starting to feel anger and instead of the teacher sending them to the office they come to the therapeutic classroom to use one of the many calming strategies in place. The bean bag to sit on and use one of the fidgets to start to calm down, this is where they apply their anger instead at a person. The room creates a calming atmosphere for them with the dim lights, and the sense of a non-traditional classroom. The strategies the students learn and use in this room they can take out into society and use for the rest of their lives. This will assist them at home, work, and in society when they become upset, frustrated, anxious, or overwhelmed. Creating this space will benefit students who also feel anxiety in a normal classroom. This type of classroom will allow them to work in a smaller, quiet, and serene learning environment. Teaching out students with trauma how to apply strategies for when they become adults will help create a improved society.
