These materials will make a difference in my student's learning by providing characters and stories they can relate to. Representation in a classroom library is so important, especially in the world we are in now. I intentionally chose books that centered on Black and BIPOC characters, LGBTQ+ characters, and characters with a range of different abilities. I want my students to see themselves in these books, as well as see their peers. These books would be used as mentor texts for specific lessons in the classroom, whether that be virtually or in person, as well as with the intention to read leisurely. By expanding my library to include stories of ALL people, I hope that it can play a small part in sparking the desire for inclusion in ALL students.
