My students don't understand that they need to understand history so that society doesn't repeat its mistakes. By having them read the book Hidden Figures, I can show them the struggles that have been faced in the recent, as well as distant, past. The struggles faced in Hidden Figures relate to the struggles faced in ancient Egypt. A group of people were looked down upon based their religious beliefs. The book Hidden Figures is not much different, as the main characters were put down because of their gender and skin color. This book will help me show my students that while we have come a long way, knowing our history will help to make sure that it is not repeated.
