Many times students are intimidated by coming into a counseling room because they are usually sent here after some sort of an escalation event, or when they are in the middle of an emotional crisis. Most counseling rooms are plain and cold, and offer no space for a child to lay down comfortably, away from others. My vision for this room, is to provide students with a place that they actually want to come to, when completed, this room will feel like being out in nature, giving children the opportunity to take a breath of fresh air and re-center their thoughts. So far, I pasted a huge forest-like mural on one of the walls, and the requested items, such as the plush rug, green bean bags, sheer curtains, etc. will help to complete the desired feel for this space. This room will be also be used to do small groups to help students with different emotional/social needs, to connect with one another.
