Literature is full of windows and mirrors. Windows allow students to peek into other people's lives and cultures, whereas mirrors allow them to look further into their own. Every student deserves to see themselves in the people around them, the books they read, the people in the media. Unfortunately, many of my students from diverse cultures lack those opportunities. These inclusive books allow my students to see themselves in the books they read, leading to a further love of reading and literacy skills. This classroom donation gives my students books for them to further explore their own cultures, as well as many diverse cultures in the world. I am teaching a classroom of future leaders, future citizens, future community members. I know that these inclusive books will allow for a deeper connection to the world and to reading!
