These books will not only enhance my students' reading abilities, but reading a story about a character with a mental health disorder will help develop empathy. I teach health and I love it, and I also love to read. I want to be able to share both passions with my students. I am choosing a book to share with my 7th graders that I know they will be able to relate to. The character is struggling through middle school like a lot of them are currently doing. On top of that, she has a mental health disorder, which will hit home for my students as well. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and this book will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. The best way to understand someone else's perspective is to put your self in their shoes. Reading a remarkable book such as, The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl, will certainly help my students succeed at both.
