Given my recent experience with online learning through my current school district, I found the online process to be more comfortable and engaging. I quickly realized how easily I can provide students with more one-on-one attention. With the aid of technology, students focus less on the reproduction of information and more on critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration and grit. Students are engaged and motivated when given opportunities to explore a digital space. An online platform proved to be more effective for submitting and editing writing activities. Most students prefer to type their responses; they’re able to type quicker, therefore type more. In turn, I can provide feedback with detailed insights, rubrics, and student exemplars. They’ll have the freedom to pursue projects that are authentic, meaningful and based on their own “wonderings” or passions. My expertise in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel gave students a creative advantage. When students worked at their own pace, it provided enrichment opportunities, and reduced disciplinary problems for students who struggle in a traditional classroom setting. It was a valuable experience where I was able to help students learn to track their own progress, making them more self-reliant, and taking personal responsibility.
