Locker day is a day full of pure joy as students practice their combinations and add stickers and family photos to their locker doors. There is nothing better than locker day. Due to Covid-19 in-person school restrictions, my students will not be able to use their lockers this year. We want to give them an alternative way to stay organized, practice social distancing while moving from class to the class, and a personal item they can make their own! These filing crates will act as backpack homes during class. It is common for backpacks to slide off the back of the chairs. Students will house their backpacks in the crates during class so that their materials are easily accessible. When transitioning classes, they will take their own personal crate with them from class to class. When carrying the crate in front of them, the crates become reminders to social distance while transitioning. They should not be able to touch anyone with their crate when it is held straight out in front of them! Finally, each crate will be decorated to take the place of the locker that my students will not get to decorate this year. My teaching partners and I are excited to have crates for our 6th-grade students!
