I work with high school students with severe to profound disabilities. Because of this, their curriculum is unlike a "typical" general education curriculum. My students spend 4-8 years with me working on developing basic, yet critical independent and life skills that they will need to increase their quality of life and independent living skills once they leave their high school program. A major part of this is cooking. Before COVID-19, my students would access community stores to buy supplies and cook with them to increase their independent living skills. Since COVID-19, we must do the shopping for them. However, my students can still prepare and cook items we purchase. With that said, my classroom needs a refrigerator to safely store the items until we are able to access the school kitchen. Having a refrigerator will allow my students to access materials needed to increase their independent living and cooking skills at any time during the school day and we will not need to be reliant on having to go to the store just before a cooking lesson. Learning proper food storage skills, cooking skills, and independent living skills is critical to enhancing my students' education. Please help me fund their future!
