Stephen King puts it best: "Books are a uniquely portable magic." In a year of uncertainty, chaos, and loss, magic will go a long way. Research shows that independent reading can help students grow their literacy skills and build a connection to literacy as a function of self. If you're someone who loves books, you know the feeling of escaping, exploring, and expanding your mind as you get lost in a story. My high school ELA students have diverse interests and needs. Due to the Covid-19 virus, they may be unable to borrow books from the public library and have an even greater need for books that can come home with them, perhaps for an extended period of time. Please help me provide them with a choice of high interest print and digital reading materials that are appropriate for all levels.
