Magnetic letters are a critical manipulative for emerging readers and writers learning to grasp building and manipulating words. My class of first graders does not have a full set of magnetic letters right now. These students missed months of their Kindergarten year due to the pandemic and are facing a challenging year ahead. In order to provide hands-on learning activities in the current Covid 19 pandemic, I will need enough magnetic letters for each student to have their own work set to keep in their desk. This will give them so many great opportunities to work with words in a much more interactive way than on a worksheet or on the computer, making their learning more rich and easing the strain of monotonous seat work for these young students.
