My elementary students will be starting the 2020 school year in a hybrid model, attending virtually half the time and face to face the other half. In this time of COVID-19, the classroom sets of instruments normally shared by my students will not be able to be safely used. Our normal activities of singing, dancing, playing music games, and working with partners will be limited as well. Recorders will get students excited about music learning during this difficult school year. They will allow students to play an instrument safely from home during distance learning. Students will have an instrument to practice from home to continue to expand their musicianship and knowledge as other forms of music education are on hold. When we are able to come back to school, students will be able to bring their recorders to the classroom and continue to learn and play together. In addition to virtual guidance from their music teacher, there are many resources available for students to learn and practice recorder during asynchronous learning. Students will be able to learn at their own pace and discover their abilities without the pressures of the classroom.
