Teaching Kindergarten remotely taught us many lessons last spring. We continue to learn. We are motivated to bring quality supplies to each of our students and prepare them all for success. The home can be a classroom too! We want to facilitate their learning by allowing play and concept discovery even outside of our classroom. This fall we want to start with a package of regular classroom materials to deliver. The excitement we know comes from tailored instruction, care and nurturing, will be part of our package. Unifix cubes and Pattern Blocks used to be shared classroom items to develop math concepts. Not every student can usually start the school year with the materials readily available in the home. This is one of the silver linings we can recognize in the pandemic. There is an increased opportunity for individual learning. Now, every child will receive materials, like Unifix cubes to represent numbers and compare quantities, or Pattern Blocks to relate to their own environment using geometric shapes. This project helps level the playing field for each child. As we connect virtually, students can hold up wipe boards as they practice letter formation and name writing using the white board markers. We can't change all the difficulties families face, but providing personalized materials will give all our precious, new students a step forward to their education. A heart-felt "thank-you" because as you fund this project, you will allow 40 super 5 year-olds to play, write, count and think with one another, even if it is from a distance.
