We know how much technology can enhance lessons and assist with student learning and understanding. At the time, I only have 5 desktop computers in our classroom of 19 students. While it would be ideal for each student to have their own computer, having any additional technology would help tremendously. With 19 children in my class, I have anywhere from 6 to 7 children in each small group during our math instruction. With only 5 desktop computers, this would mean that some students have to share a computer with completing their online practice during our math block. This is not ideal because each child learns at a different pace. If two children are sharing a computer, one child or both may end up confused and/or left behind. For example, during math we have a station dedicated to Zearn, an online program that is aligned with their math curriculum. In this station, the student is able to revisit the lesson of the day, move ahead if they are ready, or work on previous lessons that they may need remediation on. If two students are logged onto one student's account, the other student is not getting the best instruction for his or her learning needs. Instead, he or she is receiving what his partner needs additional help with. Having two additional Chromebooks would allow these students to have a lesson tailored to their own learning needs. In additional, sharing technology does not allow the students to socially distance in the classroom, which is so critical right now! Both my first graders and I would be extremely grateful for any donations. I hope you please consider donating to my class of eager first graders and help maximize their learning time!
