Flexible seating is a research-based intervention that provides students with the opportunity to access learning in a variety of ways. As students work within small groups or independently, I strive to provide them with a least restrictive environment to engage learning and support student needs and growth. Right now, my students have access to wiggle cushions, carpets squares, and one wobble stool. I have designated areas in my room where students may work on the floor with a clipboard, sit on the floor at a lowered table, sit at a traditional height table, and one table adjusted for students to work while standing. Having options appears to motivate my students, as well as allow them to utilize self-regulation skills, and identify under what conditions they may be most productive. I am hoping to achieve this project, so that my students may have access to a variety of seating options and continue to reap the benefits that flexible seating may provide!
