Learning has gone beyond sitting in a desk and listening to the teacher talk! These items will stimulate my students to take charge of their own learning. Sometimes we find it is more comfortable to sit on the floor. Rugs to the rescue! Sometimes the students become the teacher and plan lessons for the class. Markers and writing pads to the rescue! Sometimes students need their privacy for a test. Privacy boards and timer to the rescue! Some of our online learning requires audio. Earbuds to the rescue! We always need working pencils, but we can't share the hand crank sharpener. Electric pencil sharpener to the rescue! And who doesn't enjoy coming to a classroom that is bright and fun? LED lights to the rescue! These materials will be used throughout the day for various purposes. For example, every Friday is Flashlight Friday. My students are allowed to get on the floor and read with a flashlight. The rugs that I have requested will make that more comfortable. I also teach several lessons where my students research a topic and they teach it to the rest of the class. The markers and sticky writing pads will be used to help them present their ideas. One of those topics will be the different aspects of the Great Depression. I will also use the privacy boards and class timer during tests and assignments that are graded. I fully believe that these additions to my classroom will help my students gain confidence, increase their learning, and make school enjoyable, especially during these trying times.
