All of these books were chosen with my 25 specific students in mind. Being able to read about characters that look like them and share similar experiences allows them to engage and discuss the literature in a whole new way. Adding these books to our classroom library will also provide choice and autonomy. Too often classroom libraries are full of outdated and stories about characters that are not facing the choices students are today. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level. These books will help students foster a love of reading and provide an opportunity to continue building skills that will help them this year and in the future. The number one way students increase their reading ability is to read more, and these books will help me on my mission to make that happen!
