As the counselor of over 450 students at a K-5 elementary school I have seen the need to help students develop their social skills. This healthy development will cause a decrease in bullying behaviors, poor friendships, and even disrespect towards teachers. Why they need to learn about social skills? Social skills are important because they are the foundation for having positive relationships with others and allows children to learn to connect with others. What is Social Emotional Development? Social and emotional development is a child's ability to understand the feelings of others, control his or her own feelings and behaviors, get along with other children, and build relationships with adults. With the state of the world and doing things remotely I want to increase my Social Emotional Learning Virtual Library and once we return I want to be able to reward students for consistently displaying good social skills by making them “Social Skills Superheroes!”
