All students, regardless of age, want to play on the xylophones and metallophones. Currently in music classes, half of the class or less will be able to sit and play at the barred instruments at one time. Having an extra xylophone will help give students an opportunity to play an instrument in class and will lead to fewer disruptions. Barred instruments are used in many lessons as ways to provide accompaniment for songs, writing melodies, and improvising melodies. Accompaniments, student compositions, and student improvisations all concepts taught from lesson that will be used in future programs. Giving more students a chance to practice playing a xylophone will give students the confidence they need to perform for the class and school programs. This confidence will carry over into other academic areas as well as improve their musicianship. The students will feel more confident in creative writing, speaking up in class to answer questions, and presenting in front of the class. Helping the students gain confidence while in elementary school will help them through the rest of their academic career.
