These supplies will make a difference in student learning this year because it will allow all first graders to stay organized and keep all of their materials together in one place at home. Because we are doing distance learning this fall, we want to make sure students have all the supplies they would normally have in the classroom. This will hopefully allow for a seamless transition for when we do come back to the classroom. With their markers and watercolors, students can bring journal entries to life and participate in art lessons. Having pencils, sharpeners, glue, scissors and paper at home on hand will eliminate the disparities between the households that have supplies and the ones that don't. We will use play-doh as a math manipulative and for fun! We want to make sure that no student goes without the supplies they need. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we understand that some families' financial situations are strained. We are hoping that this project will cover the cost of supplies for all first graders at Garfield Elementary!
