Some students have difficulty making new friends or following classroom rules. These students can benefit from play based therapy where they will gain skills such as tolerance, learning to take turns, dealing with frustration, and showing empathy. Bibliotherapy provides students with social stories tailored to a specific skill they are trying to build. Both types of therapy are effective in building social skills and coping skills. They also provide an outlet for the student to build positive adult and peer relations. The ultimate goal is to provide the student with skills to be successful in making and keeping new friends and allow them to be more successful in a general education setting.
