In a flipped classroom, students work from home and come prepared to share their learning in class. That is how I intend to use these novels. Students will receive a book on loan to read at home. They will then come to class and work on activities related to the historical context of the book. We will discuss equity, diversity, and what it means to be American, and what entails American literature. I want my diverse students to increase their literacy skills while learning they are not alone in feeling disenfranchised by their country.
