My students and I are about to embark on a new adventure. My six-year old's will be learning online and won't have access to the amazing tools for learning phonics and reading that are in my brick and mortar classroom. I am determined to create take-home versions of these tools. They will be included in a Take-Home Reading Tool Kit. These tools would require printing, laminating, cutting, and bagging before they would be ready to include in the Reading Tool Kit. To begin with, there will be letter bags, so that my students can build words during Interactive Word Study. To be successful, they need to have access to letters to physically move and adjust the letters. Also, I will be sending home sets of teacher-created sight word cards on lanyards. Sight words are words that can't be sounded out using letter sounds and are best learned by memorization. These would have also been practiced and learned in Guided Reading. There are 100 sight words for 1st grade. To continue, I would love the opportunity to send home every child-friendly and engaging booklet for teaching strategies for decoding words. This would have been used in Guided Reading as well. The earbuds are necessary so that the students can effectively participate with minimum distraction from surrounding noise. In conclusion, they are numerous other tools I plan on creating, but the list is too long to include. My student's success is paramount regardless of whether they are in the school building or online. This pandemic should not keep them from learning all they normally would. Thank you in advance for your consideration in helping me ensure an educationally sound online experience for my very deserving students. I want to provide them every opportunity to learn because they deserve it.
