Flexible seating is a way to motivate students and help with engagement. Giving students a choice in where to sit and having flexible options empowers scholars and allows them to take responsibility in their learning. Utilizing flexible seating, students can collaborate with others easily and move around quickly in the classroom. Scholars are excited about the opportunity to use different seating choices aside from their desk. I have noticed a huge difference in students, attitude, work ethic, motivation and engagement by using the few flexible seating choices I have. Utilizing flexible seating gives scholars an opportunity to make successful decisions, teaches responsibility and accountability, while also meeting students' needs. With our classroom being an inclusion classroom with students of all needs, flexible seating aids in sensory needs being met. When students have their sensory and movement needs met, they can focus on their individual learning without being disrupting to their peers. The products I have selected have been carefully chosen for students with different needs. The wobble stools are easily moved and offer movement for students that seek this. Wobble stools allow students to have the slight movement they need without impeding learning. The bean bag chairs are easily moved and provide students with a comfortable place to read or take a break from their desk. Bean bags have proven to increase concentration during reading time and allow students to focus on their text. Wobble cushions are great for using on student chairs, to incorporate non disruptive movement, or to use flexibly for collaboration on the floor. I am so excited about the opportunity to provide flexible seating choices in our classroom to encourage continued growth of our scholars.
