I am on a mission to make sure that my sixth - eighth grade classroom library has books from every voice so that all my students can be represented in the stories that they read. Equally as important, diverse books allow students to learn more about different experiences on their own, allowing them to grow empathy for others. The books on this list represent Hispanic, Asian, Black and Middle Eastern voices as well as a range in reading difficulty to suit all levels of English language proficiency. These books are timely and relevant to the lives of today’s students. These books are windows and mirrors into the lives of the students who fill the seats in my classroom.
