Students will have access to books both at school for read aloud and independent reading as well as the opportunity to check books out to read at home. My hope is to include more books in my library, but not just any books. Books that my students see themselves in! I want them to identify with the characters. Rudine Sims Bishop describes books in terms of windows and mirrors. In some books, we see others' lives (windows) and in other books (mirrors) we see ourselves and our life experiences. It is so important to me that my students are represented in the literature I provide in my classroom.
