First and foremost as a teacher, it is my job to ensure that my students feel a sense of belonging and acceptance as they walk into my classroom each day. The books my students read need to reflect the households in which they come from; meaning they need to be relevant to their lives, while also celebrating the world we live in today. Students need to read about characters who may face challenges much like their own. Students also need to read about characters who have dreams much like their own. These books will allow me to incorporate my students' backgrounds in a meaningful way to help each student feel represented, appreciated, accepted, and inspired to go after their dreams.

About my class
