All of my students demonstrate strong analytical skills and an immense interest in reading. However, all of them are also a part of low socioeconomic status and do not have access to their own books. I am a first-year teacher trying to build a classroom library comprised of engaging, diverse stories. I seek to encourage the act of reading for pleasure in my classroom, an activity that has shown to increase verbal and transcribed articulation, empathy, mental health, and even memory. Through the use of free-choice reading books, my students will grow both personally and academically. Finally, the addition of snacks to my classroom will ensure that students can focus on their education, instead of their appetites.
