A young child is naturally inquisitive and has a strong sense of imagination. If left without tending, the ability to thrive and progress in these realms will die. As educators, it is imperative to give our students the best learning environment. Previous research has shown that play-based classrooms are the most ideal classroom to help students thrive. Without play, students are unable to group new ideas into different categories in their mind. They have to be able to make connections through play in order to naturally see and learn. Providing centers that are equipped with tools that can be manipulated and explored allows children the chance to play with these materials while making connections. A drying rack would be a beneficial addition to my classroom so that our art projects don't take up table and counter space. Play-based items such as the shopping register and doctor's office provide the opportunity to learn more about different professions. I also want to utilize multicultural toys in my classroom such as the baby dolls and play people with differing abilities. Having STEM items such as the flashlights, magnets, magnifiers, binoculars, and droppers will help my students have the chance to truly become inquisitive learners who investigate different questions.
