Have you ever read a story and realized that you can't identify with the characters at all? Maybe they have a different culture then you or maybe they don't look anything like you. This can make it hard to get into the story and really enjoy it. My students experience this when they are reading books. My students don't have many stories that they can truly see themselves in- I want to change this! Students will be able to read these stories in class, and they will be read aloud to students who are learning virtually. My goal is to make sure students can find different stories where they can identify themselves in. Every student has the right to see themselves within a story. Students who might not live in a very diverse home can also see what other people's lives are like. This will allow students to become more empathetic individuals.
